Driving Inclusive Finance through ESG
We are incredibly proud to share that our Chief Operating Officer, Sarah Mohamed, was a distinguished panelist at the 22nd East African Banking School in Mwanza, graced by the Guest of Honour, Mr. Emmanuel Tutuba, Governor, Bank Of Tanzania Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance. Sarah spoke on “New ESG Opportunities for the Banking Sector.”
Sarah emphasized that ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) should be seen as a growth strategy, not just a compliance requirement. She showcased how Selcom Microfinance Bank, as a digital-first bank, is using its mobile technology and agent network to offer inclusive and low-carbon financial services.
She also shared how we are embedding ESG into our credit scoring, agent onboarding, and customer acquisition using real-time data for transparent impact reporting.
A standout idea from Sarah’s session was the proposal for a regional ESG scoring framework and a digital credit registry to drive sustainable lending across East Africa.
At Selcom, we believe in blending purpose with profit, and Sarah’s insights reflect our commitment to building a more sustainable and inclusive financial system
